Characteristics of our Pitts

As of one Pitts special took off with a 55 horsepower engine on 1945, many models of Pitts have been made. Our Pitts S-2B two seats drillmaster model was made with extra care according to the real plane. Following is some brief introduction about our Pitts model:

As high simulation model, the first thing is to make as per the real plane. We collected many data about the real Pitts plane, included over two hundred pieces of pictures. We carefully researched the character and structure of the Pitts plane and copied the figure as per following 3 views.

We made the model as per the 3 views strictly. The work was difficult and time consuming, but it guaranteed that we got a high simulation model.

The real Pitts plane is for unlimited grade aerial acrobatics. So is our Pitts model. We made some special design on some details so that our Pitts model can finish many kinds of aerial acrobatics. Each model fan can enjoy the aerial acrobatics with our Pitts model.

Firstly, let me show you the special design of the aerofoil:

Curtis Pitts redesigned the Pitts's wings and renamed the new type as S-2S on 1966. The new design adopted a particular symmetrical aerofoil. Both upper wing and lower wing have aileron. In this way, the operation capability is same no matter the plane is on normally flying or flying on the back. Furthermore, the aerofoil of lower wing is thicker than the aerofoil of upper wing so the upper wing always slows earlier than the lower wing. The head of plane will be towards down in a moment. But the change of speed will give bigger climbing power on upper wing. The plane will restore immediately.

Our Pitts model also uses this structure. It is S-2S Pitts plane in above picture. You can see the aerofoil of upper wing and lower wing are different. We also used this design for our Pitts model. The opposite thickness of upper wing aerofoil is 14.6% and the opposite thickness of lower wing aerofoil is 12.9%. The front of upper wing is narrower. The front of lower wing is wider. In this way, the upper wing will slow earlier than the lower wing. It is much helpful to avoid the model lose speed. With this design, our model is very stable when the model is flying in low position.

Above is our model. The wings are very similar with the real plane.

 

The particular aerofoil of the front of our model's upper wing is similar with the real plane. This aerofoil can reduce the flying resistance.

We also make ribs in upper wing's wingtip like as the real Pitts Plane.

Our model's fuselage is plumpy and very similar with the real Pitts plane.

Even if some small specific, we also make our model as per the real plane. For example, the beginning arc of lower wingtip is also same as the real plane, i.e. the wingtip arc begins from the front edge of wing.

Our decorative pattern was also copied from the real plane. Our model is absolute scale model with each specific of the real plane.

 

Another important factor for double wings model is the design of two wings' elevation. We made excellent wing supporters and high precision parts for this.

Above are the sketches of middle aluminum wing supporters. You can see the bent angles on the two ends of the supporters are different. This design helps that the supporters will be suitable for the different curve on the different position of fuselage surface.

We also preset four holes on fuselage where the aluminum supporters should be mounted on so that the user can easily find the correct position on fuselage for the supporters.

From above picture, you can see the supporters have well interference fit with our Pitts model' fuselage.

Above two pictures show the outer wood supporters on two ends of wings. They are also well interference fit with the wings and easy for assembly.

The aluminum supporters and aluminum undercarriage are made by punch. It guarantees the high precision and neat figure. All the aluminum parts are anodized. The appearance is very nice. We make the undercarriage with high quality 6061 T6 aluminum. The kind of aluminum has excellent flexibility. The undercarriage is strong and durable.

It is elevating rudder of horizontal tail in above picture. We drill two small holes on it. The rudder horn can be exactly installed by the two small holes so that the rudder has same angle for turning up or turning down. At the same time, the resistance of servo linkage is in minimum. By these, operator can control the model exactly. So are the other rudder horns, i.e. the assembly is easy and exact. All of these are very helpful to exactly control the model so it is easy to do aerial acrobatics with our Pitts model.

After many tests, we found that the result was the best when the servos were installed at the front of fuselage. It is also helpful for the control. We enchase some marks on the servo shelf with laser cutter. The assembly position of servos and its' arms are clearly marked. It is very convenient for assembly.

The assembly angle of engine is also preset on engine shelf. It is also convenient for your assembly.

The assembly of our cowling is also beautiful. There is not extra step between the joint of cowling and fuselage so the figure of entire fuselage is fluent.

We preset some small blocks for your assembly of cowling. By these blocks, you can easily and firmly install the cowling on correct position.

The installation of battery is also easy. You can easily adjust the model's gravity on the position you like by adjusting the position of battery.

All of our linkage steel wires are made by precise machines. The sizes of our linkage steel wires are precise. After heat treatment and rust prevention, the linkage steel wires are strong and stretchy. All of these guarantee the precision of linkage parts. For example, Above pictures shows you the linkage of upper aileron and lower aileron. The precise linage of ailerons is much helpful for the model's loop.

Besides the excellent designs of our model, we are using high class material and excellent production techniques so that our model is high simulation and has excellent flying capability.

We measured and marked the density on our each piece of balsa wood so that we can use proper material for different wood parts of our model. In this way, our model is enough strong, but very light. It is very important for the excellent flying capability.

We developed many jigs so that our assembly of the model will be easy and high quality. Our model is not easy to distortion.

We are using high quality film for covering the model. The film is beautiful and durable. You don't need to do any repairs on the film when your flying is normal.

Our manual of the model is so clear and detailed. There are clear illustration and explanation in our manual. Even if the beginner of model, he is also able to finish the installation of our model easily.

You see our model can be used as seaplane. We designed floats for the model with balsa wood. Due to the particular figure of floats, the floats have big buoyancy force, but the resistance is small during flying.
